DAI Labs to Present at JICA Dialogue Session Connecting Asian and African Forest Officials with Japan’s Industry, Government, and Academia

DAI Labs is pleased to announce that it will participate as a presenter in the “Dialogue Session: Asian and African Forest Officials × Japan’s Industry, Government, and Academia,” organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Event Overview

The event will be held on Friday, December 4, 2026, at JICA Tokyo, with the aim of promoting information exchange and exploring opportunities for collaboration between Japanese industry, government, and academia and forest officials from Asian and African countries, with a focus on sustainable forest management in developing countries.

The event will bring together Japanese companies, organizations, and universities with a strong interest in forestry, plantation development, business opportunities in developing countries, and collaboration with local governments, alongside forest officials visiting Japan from countries across Asia and Africa. Participants will introduce their respective initiatives and exchange views on potential areas of cooperation.

DAI Labs is honored to have the opportunity to contribute to this dialogue through a presentation.

Presentation: Introducing CanopyScope

At the event, DAI Labs will introduce CanopyScope, a forest monitoring platform that combines satellite data and AI technology.

CanopyScope analyzes ALOS SAR data, high-resolution optical satellite imagery, drone data, and other sources to visualize forest land use and biomass with near-real-time updates. It also uses generative AI to streamline project development and the preparation of monitoring reports.

You can watch the CanopyScope introduction video here.

By calibrating satellite-based estimates with field survey data collected locally, DAI Labs has reduced biomass estimation errors by approximately 68%, compared with conventional approaches that rely solely on satellite data.

The presentation will also highlight the following demonstration projects and initiatives in developing countries.

Demonstration Project in Malawi

With support from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), DAI Labs conducted a demonstration project in Malawi. Following the project, DAI Labs submitted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the Government of Malawi.

By combining satellite data, drone imagery, and local field survey data, the project focused on improving biomass estimation accuracy. The results have also been adopted in private-sector carbon credit projects.

DAI Labs continues to engage in dialogue with the Government of Malawi and is discussing potential future developments.

Initiative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, DAI Labs is working with an international carbon credit registry and a local forest restoration project developer to support the accurate measurement of biomass for carbon credit verification.

Looking Ahead

DAI Labs leverages Japan’s advanced satellite data and AI technologies to support the creation of high-quality carbon credits that can contribute to Japan’s carbon markets, including the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and the GX-ETS.

The same technological foundation can also be applied to a range of other fields, including monitoring Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in rice paddies, as well as infrastructure and disaster monitoring.

Through this presentation, DAI Labs hopes to explore new opportunities for collaboration with forest officials from Asian and African countries, particularly in national forest administration, carbon credit systems, and forest management and conservation.
